If you’re a Facebook or Instagram advertiser, you know how important it is to regularly refresh and optimise your campaigns.

After a healthy frequency level, there’s no point showing your ads over and over to the same people. Also, high frequency levels will annoy your potential (or existing) customers.

    How to Overcome Ad Fatigue

So how do we overcome this?

    • Option 1 is to continually create new campaigns and new content. This, however, is time-consuming and exhausting.
    • Option 2 find fresh people to show your existing campaigns to.

Unfortunately, Facebook and Instagram aren’t great at doing this for you, and you will tend to get stuck in a loop showing the “known audience” ads repeatedly.

This little trick we will teach you today is a quick and easy way of helping AdManager find new audiences for you. The process involves creating custom audiences and excluding them from your target audience.

This will ensure that you only show your ads to new audiences who have not yet seen your content or interacted with your brand.

If your ad frequency scores are getting too high, this is a great way to start fresh and keep your campaigns running successfully.

So, let’s get started! You can watch the video or simply follow the steps below.

Quick Steps to Success: Excluding Existing Audiences

First, you will need to create custom audiences that include everyone who has seen interacted with your brand in the past. We will do this directly through the ad, so you won’t need to head into “Audiences”.

Step 1: Select the Ad you want to create an exclusion for and head to the targeting section.

Step 2: Select “Create New” and “Custom Audience”. Facebook has made this more accessible than ever, so you’re only a few quick steps away.

Step 3: Choose which data stream you want to use to create a custom audience. You can choose traffic from your website, customer lists, people that have interacted with your Facebook or Instagram account, etc. For example, today, we will create an exclusion audience for anyone who has interacted with our Facebook page.

    Step 4:

    • Select your page (if you run multiple).
    • Pick a time period; here, we are using 365 days to ensure we’re only getting fresh eyes on our campaigns.
    • Give the audience group a name.

Step 5: Add this audience to the “Exclude” section at the top.

Step 6: Here, we have created audience groups for people that have interacted with our Facebook Page, Instagram Page, and our website. These are now all listed as exclusions, and we can hit publish.

Once AdManager kicks into gear, you will stop showing ads to everyone who has already seen them.

Refresh Your Campaigns, Reach New Customers

    // THE TAKEAWAY

So, if you’re looking for an effective way to refresh and optimise your Facebook or Instagram campaigns, try creating custom audiences and excluding them. You will be surprised how fast your frequency rate drops, and your customer enquiries will increase.

We’re here to help you DeCODE the Digital World

DeCODE builds breathtaking websites that drive sales for your business without a price that would take your breath away.

We understand that Companies don’t need websites. Companies need a regular stream of high-quality leads. Customers eager, educated, and ready to purchase their products or share their vision. This is the core of a DeCODE build.

In 2020 websites are no longer set and forget, winning an online race is now a marathon, not a sprint. Visually stunning sites with limited back end functionality and no ability to perform in search are redundant.

At DeCODE we build sites that perform.
