What we built in

DeCODE built Ugly Men’s Association a custom one-page WordPress site to showcase their basement barbershop and keep the appointment book full. Services, signature packages, the barber team, the price list and a WooCommerce storefront for vouchers and grooming products all sit on one tidy scroll, with bold, tradition-meets-craft design that matches the shop’s experience.

Ugly Men’s Association (UMA) is a Perth barbershop tucked away in the basement of the State Buildings, where the team has built a reputation on tradition, craft and good conversation. Their services acknowledge classic barbering — cut-throat shaves, skin fades, beard shaping, hot towel finishes — without being trapped by it, and the whole experience is built around comfort, camaraderie and a drink in hand.

UMA came to DeCODE wanting a website that felt as confident and considered as the work they do behind the chair. The brief was clear: a single-page brochure site that tells new clients exactly what to expect, surfaces the services and packages cleanly, and makes it easy to book an appointment or grab a voucher without any noise in between.

We delivered a custom-designed, mobile-first one-pager built from scratch on WordPress, with no template shortcuts. The layout flows from a strong brand-led hero into services, signature packages, the barber team, the full price list, and the grooming brands they stock — all on a single tidy scroll. WooCommerce was wired in for gift vouchers and product purchases, giving UMA a steady second revenue line that runs alongside their walk-ins and bookings.

The visual direction leans bold and masculine without trying too hard — strong typography, generous space, and a considered black-and-white palette that lets the team and the craft do the talking. SEO foundations were baked in from day one, and the site has held up cleanly across every device since launching back in October 2017, continuing to bring fresh faces through UMA’s basement door.
